In realising that clients may be using simultaneous complimentary treatments and not addressing the issue, practitioners remain complicit in maintaining an underground practice.
Although there are potential problems with interactions between herbs and drugs, other aspects of TCM may compliment Western interventions significantly. Many clients may utilise acupuncture alongside biomedical treatment, and apart from the use of Warfarin and other blood thinning drugs that are contra-indicated for acupuncture, practices are usually complimentary. Exercise, meditation and spiritual approaches may enhance biomedical interventions and practitioners can support their clients to continue with practices that enhance wellbeing.
