Yin/Yang is the general law of opposing forces. There is the belief that in opposition there is movement and growth; Yin and Yang are the beginning and end of everything, and each contains a seed of the other within itself. Foods are classified as yin(female, cold, dark, negative energy) and yang (male, hot, positive energy). Illnesses and treatments are also classified as hot or cold.
Psychosomatic associations
Organs of the body are associated with various emotions: lung (worry), gallbladder/liver (anger), heart (happy), kidney (fear), spleen (desire) (Tom, 2011).
Ancestor worship is considered a fourth religion in China, with Christianity a growing presence as well as in Korea.
'Saving face' is a central principle in Asian cultures and refers to the need to preserve the dignity and reputation of a person in the face of an embarrassing or disruptive event. Because of the importance of this concept, emotions or psychological difficulties may not be disclosed for fear of reflecting poorly on families; intellectual impairments and mental health issues often remain concealed in order to 'save face'.
